Rookies Make Statement, go 5-1 at Premier World Series

The New York Nine Rookies announced their presence with authority at the 2014 Premier World Series in Missouri by defeating ABA New Mexico 7-1 behind a seven strikeout, zero run performance by Spencer Lodes. Johnny Archer and Robert Rota paced the offense with two hits apiece. In game two, Joe Coppola, Scotty Lobel, Ryan Flynn and Jon Difiorio each chipped in a hit and Ryan Flynn fired 2.2 shutout innings to propel New York Nine to victory vs Team Xtreme by a score of 8-6.

The Rookies won their pool and advanced to the championship round and drew three of the nations top 14u clubs. In their opening game, the Rookies defeated The Missouri Nationals Black by a convincing margin of 5-1. Dom Berardi allowed two hits over the final five frames while Lobel and Coppola added a hit and stolen base apiece.

Robert Rota took the mound in game five versus the very tough Team Mizuno Select Houston and fired a complete game, fanning six against one walk. He helped the Nine at the plate with a hit and run scored, with Berardi and Archer also chipping in with a hit apiece.

The final contest vs the St Louis Prospects brought together two undefeated (5-0) teams with the winner advancing to the national final four. Scotty Lobel allowed only two runs in a complete game, but unfortunately fell to the Prospects by a count of 2-1. The Nine plated their lone run when Lobel crossed the plate on a Berardi groundout. The game ended on an unbelievable play by the Prospects left fielder as he layed out on a Lodes missile, which would have plated Difiorio with ease. The Rookies finished with a remarkable 5-1 record, representing the organization professionally both on and off the field.
