Future 15s Claim Triple Crown July 4th Classic TItle

The Future 15s helped celebrate America’s birthday in Bergen Country, New Jersey by winning the Triple Crown July 4th Classic. In game 1, Aaron Sabato went 2-3 with 2 RBI and Mike Popaleo gave up 1 earned run over 5 innings. Jack Ryan closed the game with a scoreless 7th in a 3-2 win over the LIB Expos American.

In game 2 of the main pool, Andy Francella gave up 1 earned run through 6 innings of work in a 7-2 win over the Putnam Dutchess Diamondbacks. The offensive stars were Aaron Sabato who went 3-3 with 2 RBI and Danny Lotito who got 2 hits.

In the Quarter Finals, Cameron Johnson struck out four of the last six batters he faced to preserve a 6-5 win over the LI Titans Blue. Chris Corrado’s successful safety squeeze late in the game plated the winning win.

Jack Ryan threw a gutsy complete game in a 4-3 win over the #1 seeded Hackensack Comets to reach the championship game. Eric Mini and Tyler Mandel doubled in two runs each.

In the championship game vs the New York Steelheads, Tyler Mandel went 2-3 with a double and Matt Hegarty went 2-3 with 2 RBI in a 4-3 win. Andrew Gurgitano threw four strong innings in relief to preserve the title game.

This impressive showing came on the heels of their semi-final finish at the North East Collegiate Tournament in New Britain, Connecticut. The New York Nine Organization was represented well both on and off the field by the Future 15s players and coaches.
