Quinones, Rivera named to NABF All-Tournament Team

Jackson, Miss. - Raymond Quinones and Thomas Rivera were named to the 2006 NABF World Series All-Tournament Team. Quinones, a 2nd baseman from George Washington HS, and 2007 grad, did not commit an error during the tournament, while providing an offensive spark in the lead-off spot. Rivera, who played SS, 3B and Left Field, was named to the All Tournament Team in a Utility Role. Rivera batted near .400 for the tournament hitting in the two-hole. The F.D.U. bound Rivera batted over .350 with an OBP of over .420. The best news for the Nine, both players will be back to anchor their respective positions in the summer of 2007. Although not officially mentioned due to the fact it was a loss, Hugh Henry did not allow a hit until the sixth inning of his contest, losing 1-0 on a one-hitter. Tournaments do not select losing pitchers for all-tourney teams, however Henry's matchup with the Yankees' BJ Martin was the most talked about pitching matchup of the tournament.

Scout team World Series Bound - 2006 regular season team recap
New York- After their 6-0 march through the Northeast Regional, the New York Nine Scout team will depart for Jackson, Mississippi on Tuesday. Within the scope of trying to impliment professional level ideals and approaches in mind, the players began to realize that individual talents needed to be set aside, and team play makes for successful baseball. Under the direction of a top quality coaching staff along with the backing of the New York Nine's board and outstanding parent base who never stopped believing in the programs' ideals, the Nine began believe in a team concept and played baseball as such.

With a 4-9 start, and a 10-12 record through July 2nd, it looked as if this would be a team where there would be flashes of brilliance on the diamond but plans of consistant success began to fade. The coaching staff never gave up hope, and kept the same professional, even tempered approach to the game. Players began to make the needed adjustments in their physical and mental approaches to both the game, and in their outside lives as well. Offensive players also began to do "their jobs", moving runners along, hitting behind runners and sacrificing their at-bats to put the team in a better position to score. Players began to stop checking their batting averages and began checking the win column. Pitchers worried less about their ERA and strikeout totals, and began to trust the defense behind them.

Since July 2nd, the Nine Scout team has gone 16-2, including a twelve game winning streak and a 6-0 run at the NABF Northeast Regional. The beliefs of the NY Nine which separate us from a win-at-all-costs organization began to show through. Our student athletes became quality ballplayers, but more importantly they became quality teammates and quality people. Lastly, players' numbers began to improve as the great pressures of carrying a team faded away, and each game found a new hero. Feel free to follow this success story under the Scout Team News link located on the left side of the page. Every game is summarized, and you will see how a bunch of talented individuals turned into an outstanding TEAM. (click on TEAMS/ROSTERS for all statistics, and GAME SUMMARIES for individual game box scores)

In our opinion, our most important statistic of the summer is that every 2006 graduate who entered the program without a college or university (After April 1st) has been situated in such a short period of time, all with varying levels of assistance at major D1 and D2 universities in the Northeast, Florida and at Junior Colleges in Oklahoma and Kansas. This is what the New York Nine is all about - mental and physical growth, player development and collegiate placement.

We wish the Nine Scout squad the very best at the World Series, and thank every player in the entire organization (Scout and Showcase team) and every parent who believed enough to give this first-year organization a chance to mentor their student-athlete. There is a program out there that believes quality people make quality ballplayers, and the New York Nine will never sacrifice either ideal.
